Victor Hugo again on the occasion of its 73rd birthday.

Okay, Fr Michael's 73rd birthday, but the year is right.

Cafe Turquaz, a mediterranean style cafe at 119 Nicolson Street is my favourite. It serves all the usual coffees, great Turkish coffee, Turkish apple tea, mezze, felafel, salads, panini, moussaka and a fabulous selection of cakes.

Here are two of the people who run it and make it a lovely, friendly, relaxing place to visit.

No-one having coffee outdoors today but in summer it is a nice place to sit and look at the tombstones of long dead Episcopalians.St John's Church and Henderson's Café, Lothian Road.

This is part of the redevelopment of the Royal Infirmary site shown in Tuesday's photo. When I worked there 20 years ago there were surgical wards where this cafe is now. Next to it is Sainsbury's supermarket and next to that yet another cafe,
the unmentionable one that is taking over the world 400sq ft at a time.
